Growing better cities. Living better lives.
Plants are Europe's quiet green heroes, working every day to keep our cities cooler, cleaner and more alive.
Meet our urban guardians
Some heroes have capes, others have leaves.
The trees on our streets and the plants on our balconies are more than decoration. They are essential urban infrastructure, keeping us cooler, clearing the air, and bringing nature closer to home. It’s time they got the credit they are due.
The Green Heroes Europe campaign champions EU-grown plants at the heart of better cities. Through stories, tips and events across Europe, we’re giving them the leading role theydeserve.
Give it up for the green team
More EU-grown plants bring a living touch to our cities.
Cooler cities

Cleaner air
Plants add a breath of green to the air around us.
Biodiversity
Green spaces give pollinators, birds and wildlife a place to thrive and help nature return to urban areas.
Resilience
Green infrastructure helps cities better cope with heatwaves and floods.
Local jobs
Choosing EU-grown plants support local nurseries and livelihoods supporting more resilient green supply chains.
Watch this space
Green Cities do not just depend on authorities, all of us have the power to make the change!
From balconies to boulevards, every green space matters. Whether you’re a city resident, a new gardener, a landscape professional or a local decision-maker, we can all take greener cities into our own hands.
In the coming months, we’ll share practical tips for greener balconies, backyards and urban spaces, plus events, activities and inspiration for citizens, communities and professionals. A resource hub is on its way too, with useful guidance and campaign materials.
